The CBR500R is an entry-level big bike from the Japanese manufacturer, Honda. If launched in India, the CBR500R will slot in between the CBR250R, CBR650F and the CBR1000RR. Price is estimated at Rs. 5.5-6 lakhs.

The CBR500R looks classy has a lot of presence on the road

Styling - The CBR500R is a fully faired sports tourer. The design of the CBR500R is based on the  CBR1000RR. It looks attractive and catches a lot of attention on the road, especially in this red color scheme. The graphics look neat. At the front, it gets dual LED headlights but sadly no LED indicators. The rear profile looks sporty with the bulbous exhaust and the 160 section rear tyre. The 12-spoke alloy wheels and the gold-finished crankcase look modern. The fit and finish of the motorcycle is very good too.

The instrument cluster looks old but is well-loaded

Instrument Cluster and Switchgear - The CBR500R gets a fully digital instrument cluster, however, at this price point, we expected something more appealing. On the positive side, it shows all the necessary information. The switchgear too is of very good quality. On the right-hand side, you also get an engine kill switch, an electric starter along with a  button for the headlights. On the left-hand side, there is a button for the horn and a switch for the beams.

The CBR500R is comfortable for both short and tall riders

Ergonomics - The CBR500R is intended for touring long distances. The riding position is slightly leaned but also comfortable for touring thanks to the wide handlebar. The seat height is low at 780 mm, which makes it ideal for both short and tall riders along with the rear set foot pegs. The mirror offers a good view of what's behind, even with a riding jacket on. The rider seat is comfortable however the pillion seat is very small and doesn't even get a grab handle.

The CBR500R has a punchy and refined engine

Performance - The CBR500R is powered by a 471cc. 4-stroke, parallel twin engine that produces 47 HP and 43 Nm of torque. The engine is very punchy in the low and mid ranges. The engine is also very refined however one can feel some vibrations post 5000 RPM. The 6-speed gearbox is smooth and certain along with the light clutch. Expect a mileage of 25 km/l.

The CBR500R has a good ride and handling balance

Riding Dynamics - The CBR500R gets a standard 41mm telescopic fork up front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. The ride quality and handling of the CBR500R is very good. However, the ride can get bouncy on bad roads. The brakes, on the other hand, paired with dual-channel ABS offer good stopping power.

The CBR500R looks great, performs great and has good dynamics

Verdict - The Honda CBR500R is an outstanding entry-level big bike from Honda. It has the looks as well as the performance on the road. It is not only fuel efficient but also fun to ride. The bike is extremely rider friendly and forgiving. Pair all that with the reliability of Honda and we have a great motorcycle on our hands if the price is not an issue.
